Happy Easter! At this time of year when we remember our Lord and Savior and His sacrifice for us, I want to direct you to a wonderful new site put in place by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, devoted entirely to the Lord Jesus Christ. Do Mormon's Believe in the Bible?

Yes, absolutely! The Bible is a testimony of Jesus Christ (actually, two testimonies- the Old Testament, and the New Testament). The Book of Mormon is, as the title states, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. Here are some quotes about the Bible from church sources:

From BYU.edu- "Latter-day Saints accept the Bible as one of the Church's four standard works and believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly (Articles of Faith 8). Foremost among its virtues is the declaration that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, through whom eternal salvation may come to all. While Latter-day Saints revere the Bible as the word of God, the Prophet Joseph Smith recognized that translations do not reflect totally and exactly the original words and intentions of the ancient prophets. He therefore thoroughly studied the Bible, as instructed by the Lord, and prepared the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible. The Church has also produced an indexed and annotated version of the King James Bible. Latter-day Saints study the Bible, as they do all scriptures, in conjunction with other standard works and modern revelation. Fundamental to Latter-day Saint belief is the idea that the Bible is harmonious with other scripture; when used together, these scriptures enhance one another and aid modern readers in correctly comprehending and interpreting these texts.abstracted from "Bible: LDS Belief in the Bible," in Encyclopedia of Mormonism, ed. From LDS.org- "The Bible is a collection of sacred writings containing many of God’s revelations. It is a record of His dealings with some of His children from the Creation through the ministries of Jesus Christ and His Apostles. It was written by prophets and historians who knew God and testified of Jesus Christ. It is read and revered by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and they study it regularly.

The Bible is not God’s final revelation to humanity, however, and neither is this collection of sacred writings complete. The Bible itself speaks of other authoritative books of scripture including books of Nathan the prophet and of Jehu and Enoch, the prophecy of Ahijah, the visions of Iddo the seer, and even missing epistles of Paul (see 2 Chronicles 9:29; 13:22; 20:34; 1 Corinthians 5:9; Jude 1:14). Other books of Latter-day Saint scripture—the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price—clarify the gospel as taught in the Bible and corroborate the truthfulness of the Biblical witness of Jesus Christ."

We use the King James version of the Bible in English. Elsewhere, the church has recommended certain versions that are the standard in that language. We see the Bible as the word of God and revere it as sacred scripture.

Thomas S. Monson Named 16th Church President

SALT LAKE CITY 4 February 2008 Thomas S. Monson is the new president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it was announced today at a news conference in the Church Office Building. President Monson, 80, succeeds President Gordon B. Hinckley, who died 27 January.

The new world leader of the Church has called to serve with him in the First Presidency, the top governing body of the 13- million- member faith, President Henry B. Eyring, 74, first counselor, and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, 67, second counselor.

President Boyd K. Packer, 83, is the new president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The vacancy in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will be filled later.

Passing of President Gordon B. Hinckley

Beloved Church President Gordon B. Hinckley, who led The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through 12 years of global expansion, has died at the age of 97. President Hinckley was the 15th president in the 177-year history of the Church and had served as its president since March 12, 1995. For more information, please visit lds.org.
